NetBackup → Veeam migration

Leave NetBackup behind — without losing your legacy data.

NetBackup is reaching end of life and Cohesity is steering customers elsewhere — but your old tape data still has to be recoverable. We host your existing NetBackup server and run restores on demand, so you can move to Veeam now and still get data back whenever you need it.

  • Keep on-demand access to legacy tape restores
  • A fixed monthly fee — pay per tape only when you restore
  • Hosted securely in TIMG's Australian data centre

The NetBackup problem

The clock is ticking on NetBackup

NetBackup appliance models and software follow structured end-of-life and end-of-support-life milestones. With Veritas now part of Cohesity — and Cohesity pushing customers toward its own platform — every NetBackup customer has to decide how they'll exit. The hard part isn't picking a new backup product; it's the cost and effort of migrating, and what to do with years of legacy tape data you're still obligated to retain.

End of life

Appliances and software age out of support on a fixed schedule, leaving you exposed.

Vendor pressure

Cohesity is steering NetBackup customers to migrate — on their terms, not yours.

Retention obligations

You still need to restore old data to meet compliance and legal retention.

How it works

Your clean exit from NetBackup, in three steps

We make leaving NetBackup simple — you hand it over, we keep the restores running.

1

Hand it over

Send us a virtual-machine copy of your NetBackup server (with its working license) and your tapes — or we use the tapes already stored with TIMG.

2

We host & validate

We rebuild your environment in our secure Australian data centre, connected to our tape hardware, and confirm it works with an included proof-of-concept restore.

3

Move to Veeam

Back up new data with Veeam. When you need legacy data, request a restore and we recover it from tape — you pay per tape, only as needed.

What's included

A fully managed restore service

Restoration from tape

A dedicated virtual environment connected to physical tape hardware, configured to emulate your original backup server and recover data from tape media.

Setup, testing & maintenance

We build and configure the environment from your server VM. One proof-of-concept restore (up to 3 tapes) is included to validate it works.

Infrastructure management

Ongoing maintenance of the hosted environment, storage and tape hardware so it stays available and ready for your restore requests.

Simple, predictable pricing

An affordable way off NetBackup

You pay a fixed monthly fee for us to host your restore environment, and a per-tape rate only when you actually need a restore. No big migration project, no surprise costs.

  • Fixed monthly hosting fee — budget with certainty
  • Pay per tape, only when you request a restore
  • Got data on disk, not tape? We can move it to tape or cloud object storage
  • We can store your tapes too, if they're not already with TIMG

Delivery & security

Your restored data, delivered securely

Flexible delivery

Restored data can be delivered to your own secure cloud storage (e.g. OneDrive, Dropbox), to an external USB drive or NAS, or via TIMG-hosted FTPS.

Isolated environment

Your backup server VM runs in an isolated environment with no internet connectivity. It's kept as-is — we don't patch or alter your backup application.

Secure deletion

Once you confirm you have your data, temporary restore data is deleted and any TIMG-hosted FTPS account is removed.

Backed by TIMG

Hosted in TIMG's secure Australian data centre, under TIMG's ISO/IEC 27001:2022-certified information security practices, with Australian data residency.

What we need from you

You provide

  • A virtual-machine copy of your original NetBackup server (with a working license)
  • Any available backup catalogues or databases
  • Any encryption keys needed to restore your data
  • Credentials from the original environment

Good to know

What's not included

  • This is a restore-only service — no ongoing backup jobs or scheduling
  • No direct access to the hosted environment (we provide screen-sharing to help identify data)
  • No patching or updates to your backup software
  • Backup software licensing and any lapsed vendor-support reactivation costs are yours

Frequently asked questions

Why do I need to move off NetBackup?

NetBackup appliances and software follow structured end-of-life and end-of-support milestones, and with Veritas now part of Cohesity, customers are being pushed to migrate. Planning your exit now puts you in control.

Do I keep my NetBackup license?

Yes. The virtual-machine copy of your NetBackup server you provide should have a working license on it — the hosted environment uses your existing software.

What if my data is on disk, not tape?

We can move on-disk NetBackup data to tape or to cloud object storage so it stays recoverable through the service.

Can you store my tapes?

Yes. If your tapes aren't already stored with TIMG, we can store them for you.

How fast are restores?

Timeframes vary with the number and age of tapes, the condition of your catalogues, and the complexity of the original environment. All restores are performed on a best-effort basis.

How am I billed?

A fixed monthly fee covers hosting the restore environment, and you pay a per-tape rate only when you request a restore. Restores needing extra software are quoted as custom restores at an hourly rate.

Is this a backup service?

No — it's restore-only, to keep your legacy data recoverable. For protecting new data, you move to Veeam.
